This is where your power lives at night and on cloudy days. We use LiFePO4 lithium batteries for most cabin applications. They hold 75 to 90% of their capacity at minus 20, last over a decade, and don't need the maintenance that lead-acid batteries do. For unheated cabins we use self-heating models.

Regulates the power coming from your panels into the batteries. We use Victron SmartSolar MPPT controllers which are 20 to 30% more efficient than older PWM technology, especially important in Manitoba winters when every bit of production counts.

Converts battery power into the standard household power your appliances run on. A properly sized inverter means you can run a fridge, lights, power tools, a microwave, everything you'd expect. We install Victron MultiPlus inverter-chargers in most cabin builds.

Lights, a fridge, phone charging, and maybe a small appliance or two. A system in the 800W to 1,200W range with a 400Ah battery bank covers this comfortably. Most seasonal cabin owners don't need generator backup.
Add a well pump, heating loads, tools, laundry, and heavier appliances and the system size grows. Full-time off-grid living in Manitoba typically needs 2,000W to 4,000W of solar and a battery bank sized for 2 to 3 days of autonomy, with a generator backup for deep winter.

Panels are mounted at a steep tilt angle, 55 to 70 degrees, which maximizes low-angle winter sun and lets snow slide off naturally.
Batteries are selected for cold weather operation. LiFePO4 chemistry handles cold far better than lead-acid, and for unheated storage spaces we use self-heating battery models that prevent charging damage below zero.
For longer stays through deep winter, we recommend integrating a propane generator as a backup for the weeks each year where sun hours are too low to keep up with demand. Most cabin owners run it for a few hours a month at most.

Up to about 4 hours from Winnipeg for standard installations. For larger projects we're willing to go further. For very remote properties we can design and supply the system with support for a local crew to install.
Can I expand on the solar panel system later?
Yes. We design with headroom in inverter/charger and battery architecture (e.g., 48V, parallel strings) makes upgrades easier.
How long does installation take?
Most cabin installs are completed in one to two days on site. The design and equipment sourcing before that typically takes one to two weeks.
